A Clifton plumber you can actually reach at 2 a.m.

When water is coming through a ceiling in Delawanna or the boiler quits on the first cold night in Allwood, you need two things: a person who answers, and a licensed plumber who shows up with the right parts. That is the whole idea behind PlumberClifton. One local number, one licensed New Jersey Master Plumber behind the work, and a straight answer on price before anyone drives over.

Not sure whether your problem can wait until morning? Call and describe it. If it is safe to hold off, we will tell you, and we will tell you how to make it safe tonight. If it can't wait, we dispatch.

Below you will find what we fix, why Clifton plumbing tends to break the way it does, what common repairs cost in North Jersey, and the neighborhoods and nearby towns we cover from Main Avenue.

Why Clifton plumbing fails the way it does

Clifton is a city of roughly 90,000 people spread across five ZIP codes, and the plumbing changes as you cross it. Knowing the house tells us what is likely behind the wall before we open it.

Older pipes on the east side

The streets closest to Passaic and the river, Botany Village, Dutch Hill and parts of Delawanna, are full of homes built before World War II. Galvanized steel supply lines and cast-iron drain stacks are still common here. Galvanized pipe closes up from the inside, so pressure fades slowly over years. Cast iron cracks along the bottom where you can't see it, so a slow drain or sewer smell is often the first clue.

Post-war homes in Allwood, Richfield and Athenia

Much of central and western Clifton filled in during the 1940s through the 1960s. These homes usually have copper supply lines, which hold up well, but they are now old enough for original shut-off valves, water heater connectors and boiler parts to fail. A lot of our water heater replacements and no-heat boiler calls come from this era of housing.

The water service itself

Clifton gets its water from the Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC), which replaced customer-owned lead service lines in Clifton, Passaic, Paterson and Prospect Park as part of a program it reported finished in 2025. That program targeted lead and galvanized lines, but it did not touch the pipes inside your house. If your service line was replaced and your pressure is still weak, the restriction is usually inside the home. We explain the PVWC program and what it means for you in our guide to lead and galvanized service lines in Clifton.

Storms and basements

Heavy rain hits Clifton hard. Weasel Brook, which starts in the Albion section near Ravine Park, has flooded parts of Clifton Avenue during intense storms, and low-lying blocks near the Passaic River see groundwater rise fast. When storm water overwhelms the system, basements take it in two ways: water seeping through the floor (a sump pump problem) and sewage pushing up through a floor drain (a sewer line problem). They need different fixes, and the first job is telling which one you have.

How it works

From the first ring to the final inspection

  1. Call or send the form. A real person answers. Tell us what is leaking, how long, and whether you can shut the water off. We give you the trip fee on the phone.
  2. We make it safe first. If water or gas is involved, we walk you through shutting it off while the plumber is on the way. You'll know who is coming and roughly when.
  3. Diagnose, then quote. The licensed plumber finds the cause, shows you what failed, and gives you a written price before the repair starts. No price, no work.
  4. Fix, permit, clean up. We do the repair, pull the New Jersey permit when the job needs one (water heaters, gas work, new lines), and leave the work area as we found it.

What plumbing costs in Clifton, said out loud

Price is the question everybody has and most plumbing sites dodge. These are typical North Jersey ranges so you can plan. They are not a quote. Your price depends on access, parts and what we find, and you get it in writing before work starts.

Clifton requires a plumbing permit for jobs like water heater replacements and new piping, and we include the permit and inspection in our quote so there are no add-ons at the end. Read more in our Clifton emergency plumber cost guide.

Commercial plumbing along Route 3 and Main Avenue

Our address puts us in the middle of Clifton's commercial corridor, between the office buildings on Route 3, the shops on Main Avenue and the light industrial blocks off Kingsland Avenue and Allwood Road. Property managers call us for annual backflow testing, restroom repairs, water heater swaps in multi-unit buildings and after-hours leaks. Same licensed plumber, same written quote, and test paperwork filed for you.

Clifton neighborhoods and the towns next door

We work all of Clifton: Delawanna, Rosemawr, Allwood, Athenia, Botany Village, Richfield, Albion, Dutch Hill, Lakeview, Montclair Heights and every street in between. From Main Avenue at Route 3 we also reach the neighboring towns quickly: Passaic to the east, Nutley and Belleville to the south, Lyndhurst across Route 3, and Wallington and Garfield across the Passaic River.

Each area page covers the housing, the common calls and the local details that matter for that part of town. If you're on the line between two towns, just call. We'll tell you whether we can get there fast.

Licensed, insured, and accountable by name

Plumbing in New Jersey is licensed work, and it should be done by someone whose name is on the license. Every PlumberClifton job is performed by Maccabi Plumbing & Heating under New Jersey Master Plumber License #13345, held by owner Morey Katzourin. Morey has worked in North Jersey basements for roughly two decades, and the company is bonded, insured, and certified for backflow testing and Navien high-efficiency equipment.

What that means for you is simple:

  • The plumber who shows up can legally pull the permit, so the work passes inspection and protects your homeowner's insurance.
  • You get one contractor for plumbing and heating. No second company for the boiler.
  • You hear the trip fee before we dispatch and the repair price before we start.
  • We tell you when something can wait. A repair you don't need is not a sale we want.

Saturdays we are closed. If you call on a Saturday, leave a message and we call back Saturday night or first thing Sunday. We'll always tell you plainly if a job has to wait.

Clifton plumbing questions we answer every week

How fast can a plumber get to my house in Clifton?

For true emergencies inside Clifton, we usually dispatch right after the call, and travel from Main Avenue at Route 3 is short to most neighborhoods. You get a realistic arrival window on the phone, not a promise we can't keep. Non-emergency jobs are booked the same or next day. Call (908) 376-9159 for the current wait.

Are you open 24 hours?

We answer 24 hours a day Sunday through Friday, including nights and holidays. We are closed on Saturdays. Saturday messages get a call back Saturday night or Sunday morning. See our emergency plumber page for what counts as an emergency.

Do you charge a trip fee?

Every emergency call has a service (trip) fee that covers getting a licensed plumber and a stocked van to your door and diagnosing the problem. We tell you that number on the phone before we dispatch, so you can decide with no surprises. The repair is quoted separately, in writing, before work starts.

Is PlumberClifton licensed in New Jersey?

Yes. All work is performed by Maccabi Plumbing & Heating under NJ Master Plumber License #13345, held by owner Morey Katzourin. The company is bonded and insured. You can read more on our About page.

Do I need a permit to replace a water heater in Clifton?

A water heater replacement in New Jersey requires a plumbing permit and an inspection, and Clifton's construction office handles both. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the job. Our water heater permit guide explains why it matters for insurance and resale.

What should I do first if a pipe bursts?

Shut off the main water valve, usually on the front basement wall by the meter, then turn off the water heater and open a low faucet to drain pressure. Keep people away from water near outlets. Then call us. Our burst pipe guide walks through the first 30 minutes step by step.

Can you fix a boiler, or only plumbing?

We handle both. Steam and hot-water (hydronic) boilers, combi boilers and the piping around them are a big part of our winter work in Clifton's older homes. Read about our boiler repair service or our no-heat checklist.

Do you work on commercial buildings?

Yes. We serve offices, retail and multi-unit buildings along Route 3, Main Avenue and the Allwood and Kingsland industrial areas. Common jobs include annual backflow testing, restroom repairs, and water heater replacements in apartment buildings.
